Some right-winger gladly points out the inequality was greater in the Middle Ages. Not only it is not the truth but we live in ages with unprecedented inequality (arguably with 19th-century capitalism).
Yes, there is scientific and technological progress that has helped billions of people out of poverty and heightened their life expectancy.
The Westerners live in abundance while tens of percent of its inhabitants must accept they will live their whole lives in poverty. This is how capitalism works.
But let me compare it with hunter-gathering groups. Imagine the 1 % of people (official numbers or not) owns 99 % of everything in nowadays capitalism. Then imagine there were 10 000 hunter-gathering groups and 100 of them would own 99 % of the property. It would be unimaginable, yet such perversion is reality and we have the “luck” to live in such a system.
