I have never understood why the American private high schools suck (sorry, I cannot put it in another way). I understood the poor level of the state schools, but private ones?
These are schools for the 19th century (or for the Middle Ages). And what would I put into their curriculum? Mathematics (even in a creative way), programming (ditto), critical thinking, cognitive biases, fallacies, nowadays analytical philosophy. The schools should be naturally bilingual. There should not only be pressure on your IQ but also on your creativity. Your own Access databases, your own Excel blueprints. Painting is also a good thing for creativity, maybe producing your own music. The school should develop and extend your IQ, creativity, talents, and critical thinking. And I see only roughly 1/3 of this being done at private schools. Team building, emotional quotient may also be useful.
Now I have told you what it should be like. But no. Learning plots of books (imagine you would be non-compulsory memorizing movies plots – you would be the weirdest man on the planet, but when it comes to literature it is normal). Music education, literature not only won’t make you smarter in terms of IQ but not even in a broader sense.
And what about physics or chemistry? Don’t they expand your horizon and have a positive effect on your IQ? Yes, they do, but they should be taught only at universities. In the century of robots and artificial intelligence, programming and mathematics are priorities.
So why are private schools so bad? To assure you I am not saying the nowadays public schools don’t elevate you, but it could and should be done in a different manner and far far better.
So what is the deal? Our usual suspects – the shadow eminences that don’t want the US population to be really educated (they own the schools). American eugenics programs weren’t abolished because of the Nazis, it was just a pretext. They understood educated, bright and healthy population is against their interests and it may somehow endanger their positions.
The funniest thing is that they (the politicians) always claim they want to educate their population to the maximum. Nothing can be farther from the truth. In order to broader your horizon, you need to read a lot of books and pay for them. It same goes for foreign languages and vocabularies that are pricey.
