In my culture, people look at top managers as professionals who do best in what they do. Needless to say, the eventual managers change, and are rewarded differently, but in the opinions of the common people, it doesn’t matter.
So one business magazine had been asking them various questions about various topics. And the results were awful. Global warming, various social issues, the death penalty, euthanasia, genetic engineering, universal basic income, overpopulation or education reform
These people completely disregarded the notion they are professionals (or at least they should) in running companies, banks etc., they are not experts who studied and devoted huge parts of their lives to conducting evidence-based scientific research on various topics.
These were top managers, with IQs of 125-150 and huge talents for what they do. However, it didn’t prevent them from using intuition, groundless claims, cognitive biases, fallacies and formal logical errors with the Czech educational system having left permanent marks. Zero expertise, extraordinary claims. They may be competent in real managerial skills or scholarly approach of it.
Put aside the judgment that Czech managers are subpar to Western ones (they were raised in the Czech culture, don’t make risky decisions and so on) and let’s dive into the fact that the common population has IQs tens of points lower, is less educated, therefore plagued with aforementioned.
They will kindly answer any questions from quantum mechanics, Newton’s or Einstein’s physics, economics, sociology, decision theory, evolutionary biology, political science, analytic philosophy and so on, even though they have absolutely no clue what they are talking about.
But they cannot be experts. The very decision to vote in the polls is something unbelievably stupid and it is a reminiscence of why humankind is where it is.
