The Czech Republic is a member of the EU and people can work and move to other countries that are not Czech-speaking, however, they don’t do that much. So this seems like learning a new language is a problem (because they lure people for higher wages). With all people living on this planet and speaking English, no such thing would happen.
People could travel wherever they want and they would share – even with regional accents – one common language – English.
First of all, I would like to declare that my English is poor. I am saying this in a very polite manner.
I can listen, read, and write, yet not speak and think in English (see here) and since a native speaker can know 10,000 to 20,000 words actively and 20,000 to 35,000 words passively, I am one huge failure. However since I suffer from schizophrenia, my previously good attempt to acquire good English vocabulary failed.
By the way, there were times when it was quite fluent. But it is my illness that has delayed recall so the flow is not so fluent.
But actually, I am one-eyed among the blind because of my horrible accent. Because native American speakers told me it was not so bad (watch this) compared to other Czech people. And we were taught the English language early on.
Speaking mandatory English language or not?
Since the global government is necessary for people (if not for robots), can we retain our own languages (or dialects) or should we only speak English?
I will make angry a lot of people. Indeed, in my humble opinion, all people on this planet should speak one language and that is English.
While they consider British English more noble, the majority of native English speakers are the North American ones so we should use this because of the practical issues I will outline.
Even British singers sing in an American accent, so the majority of the world’s non-native speakers acquired their accent.
If we take it from the nationalist standpoint, British English is over as they are out of the EU. But we don’t care so this doesn’t matter.
How to do it?
Make all the native speakers who have some interest in teaching start teaching in other world’s part. Of course, there are so many people that it would be impossible to provide so many workforces.
So even non-native speakers would be teaching everything from kindergarten to university in the English language.
And everything would be in English. From TV, radio, internet, and movies to package leaflets.
Why to translate Wikipedia? Why not to learn English
Such a dire reality. There are billions of Wikipedia, and this eventual knowledge base cannot tell more about how divided the world is.
Music videos in English are provided with subtitles with only simple English being used. It is a testimony of their educational systems? It really isn’t.
Conslusion of why people should speak English
One language would be a really significant effort that would need huge money. And where to take it? What about our super-rich folks who actually speak English as well?
Also, exchanges are a vital part of the whole project. The youth should be organized with the effort of learning English.
One world government, no us/them dichotomy, and a single common language would promote human well-being on a scale unimaginable before.
