In the USA, African-Americans are discriminated against everywhere it is possible but sadly the African-Americans have got addicted to Hip-hop music.
So instead of showing the system that they can resist its oppression by studying to be engineers, scientists or politicians, building their strong willpower and hard work ethic, they listen to the genre that promotes social pathological phenomena.
The topic of a lot of rap songs is that there is no legal way out. You can only sell drugs or be a gangster to make a living. How wrong and twisted!
American laws are made to discriminate against African-Americans but the system also offers a lot of opportunities (in capitalism, you get plenty of them).
Hip-hop artists are intertwined with mobsters. Eminem famously said that his conscience would be filled with remorse had he had someone killed. But his music is full of violence itself and ignited a lot of violent incidents. I am not saying that after listening to Eminem someone goes and murders somebody, but yes, certain individuals are prone to it. It reminds me of the movie Natural Born Killers.
No one is expecting rap artists will rap about philosophy or science but bragging about murdering someone, dealing drugs or abusing addictive substances is also very detrimental to socially disadvantaged people (not only African-Americans).
