2014 Russo-Ukrainian war is not a black-and-white issue

Few people will tell you the 2014 Russo-Ukrainian war is a complex issue. People stand on either of two sides.

If you look at the history, it is full of Russo-Ukrainian wars so using time series, it is something we should expect and it is not an aberration.

The West wants Ukraine, and Russia respectively to contain economically, thus politically and Russia wants the same and vice versa.

Vladimir Putin is trying to extend territory as a defense mechanism against the West and NATO wants the same.

If the West hadn’t organized a coup d’etat called Euromaidan, no war would be basically taking place. Ukraine would be either enormously pro-Russian or militarily occupied by Russia without any greater violence.

98 % of politics is occurring in the background so Putin wanted the constellations to benefit his side. Put aside the notion he wanted to play a greater role in European politics, he just didn’t want a great united enemy (so, therefore, the talks before the 2022 invasion).

Feeling cornered by potential Ukrainian entrance to NATO or EU (which would mean missiles within his borders) and being aware of the limited possibility of removing the pro-Western government, he started a war that he believed would be short-lived.

I totally despise the 2022 invasion (yes, Putin shouldn’t have done it) that is a product of imperialism of both sides. It is partly a proxy war (by the West), a movie theater for potential military technology buyers, testing the military technology and a tool how to prevent Russian imperialism and weaken Russia.

You may find yourself leaning to some side depending on whether you friend of at least some kind of democracy (perverted though) or an autocracy.

Final point: Were people pacifists no war would be taking place. A Christian friend of mine uttered: “I am not going to shoot at people I have no issues with! So rather shoot me!”
