Imagine when there were no sophisticated political marketing, TV, or radio ads. The party’s program was written in plain text with no manipulating pictures. The donors (super-rich interest groups) had less maneuvering space.
I know this is utopian but I will still write how I would change today’s politics.
The mass media should be completely transparent – without commercials, known owners (they should be non-profit) with customers paying for their content.
We must acknowledge there are interest groups at the top political ladder. And the mass media should uncover them. What politician is connected with a particular interest group. They should also uncover what rival media journalists are connected to what interest groups.
Then we would teach the given population how to be free of cognitive biases and fallacies and how to have critical thinking (I acknowledge there is some limit in terms of IQ).
All of the political parties have programs like fighting corruption, economical boost, or wage rise. Yet they tend not to collaborate with each other after the election. So guess what? Either they change themselves or you stop voting for them.
When the political environment would be solely in hands of people, there would be no need for what political analysts call a “political system”. Something proved, with lobbyists on all sides, with stable donors. Without the political system, chaos would ensue but when in the hands of an educated population no such thing would happen.
Corruption investigation would also be part of the mass media agenda. Billions of dollars would be saved.
