Being a former politician can be a tough job. From the limelight to the darkness.
I live in a small landlocked European country where always some former important politician emerges with his own opinion article. And people are utterly disgusted because the politicians wear off easily.
“Why are you bringing up this a**hole? He should be rotting in hell, he has nothing to offer,” people chant.
But things are, of course, far more complicated. Every former politician has to be connected to a super-rich interest group(s) if he wants to be published. And what kind of words can he offer? He cannot say really what he wants because the super-rich groups are in some constellation so he has to criticize this one and that one, but not this and that kind of public issues.
So it highly depends on given country’s political culture. Former US presidents or politicians usually stay in the darkness after their tenure. It same goes with the British ones. But some Czech ones long to be superstars even after the years of their end in the office.
So they must say opinions they absolutely disagree with. And they make clowns out of themselves.
It same goes with opinion journalists. They are either proven or directly connected to the super-rich. So still dream about clientelism-free journalists with independent attitudes? Rather forget about it!
